Tri-Beach Volunteer Fire Department depends on dedicated community members who are willing to give their time, learn new skills, and serve when their neighbors need help.
Our volunteers help protect Holden Beach, Varnamtown, and the surrounding Tri-Beach community through emergency response, training, fire prevention, public education, and community service.
No previous fire service experience is required. We provide the training, equipment, and support you need to get started.

Ways to Serve
🚒 Operational Volunteer
Operational members train to respond to emergencies throughout the Tri-Beach Fire District. Depending on training, certification, and department qualifications, members may participate in:
Structure and vehicle fires
Motor vehicle crashes
Rescue incidents
Medical emergencies
Water and marine emergencies
Hazardous conditions
Storm and disaster response
Other emergency incidents
You don't need to arrive with these skills. New members begin with training and supervised participation appropriate to their experience and qualifications. Responsibilities increase as required training and competencies are completed.
🧑🚒 Junior Firefighter — Ages 14–17
The Tri-Beach Volunteer Fire Department Junior Firefighter Program gives young people ages 14 through 17 an opportunity to learn about the fire service, develop practical skills, and serve their community in a structured and supervised environment.
Junior Firefighters participate in training, department activities, and other approved functions while learning the fundamentals of firefighting and emergency services. The program emphasizes:
Fire service fundamentals
Safety
Teamwork
Leadership
Responsibility
Community service
Because Junior Firefighters are under 18, their activities and emergency-scene participation are limited by department policy and applicable requirements. Safety and education are always the priority.
The Junior Firefighter Program is an excellent opportunity for young people interested in emergency services and can help prepare them for future service as an adult member of Tri-Beach Volunteer Fire Department.

You don't have to become an interior firefighter to make a difference at Tri-Beach.
Support volunteers can assist the department with activities such as:
Community events
Fire prevention and public education
Fundraising
Department logistics
Administrative support
Community outreach
Other department functions
There are opportunities for people with many different skills, backgrounds, and levels of experience.
What Tri-Beach Provides
Training
New volunteers receive guidance and training appropriate to their assigned role.
Operational members have opportunities to complete fire, rescue, emergency medical, and other specialized training applicable to their position and responsibilities.
Tri-Beach supports approved training and certification necessary for members to safely perform their assigned duties.
Protective Equipment
Required department-issued personal protective equipment and other necessary equipment are provided based on the member's position, training, and qualifications.

What We Expect From Our Volunteers
Being a volunteer firefighter is rewarding, but it also requires commitment.
Tri-Beach members are expected to:
Participate in required training

We understand that volunteers have jobs, families, school, and other responsibilities. We don't expect volunteers to be available every minute.
We do expect our members to be dependable, committed to training, and ready to serve when they are available.
What Happens After You Apply?

After your application is received, the department will review your information and contact you regarding the next steps in the membership process.
Depending on the position, the process may include:

New operational members begin with training and supervised participation appropriate to their experience and qualifications.
Emergency-response responsibilities increase as members complete required training and demonstrate the skills necessary to perform those duties safely.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need firefighting experience?
No. Previous fire service experience is not required. Tri-Beach provides training and guidance to help new members develop the knowledge and skills necessary for their assigned role.
Do I have to become an interior firefighter?
No. There are different ways to serve Tri-Beach. Not every volunteer has to perform interior structural firefighting.
Can I volunteer if I have a full-time job?
Yes. Volunteer members balance fire department service with employment, family, school, and other responsibilities.
Will I receive training?
Yes. Training appropriate to your position and responsibilities is an important part of becoming a Tri-Beach member.
Can teenagers join?
Yes. The Tri-Beach Junior Firefighter Program is available to eligible youth ages 14–17.
Junior members receive a structured introduction to the fire service while participating only in training, department activities, and emergency-scene functions appropriate for their age and permitted by department policy and applicable requirements.
